My name is Terry and this is my blog.

I am currently living in Los Angeles.

I like films, music, and don't even get me started on long walks on the beach.

I don't read a lot of books, but am always fishing for book recommendations.

My parents are Vietnamese and I was born in America.

That's all you really need to know upfront.

11/06/2006: "Your Movie Wasn't THAT Awesome"

music: The Concretes
mood: Better . . .

So like many of you this weekend, I took a few hours out of my life and saw what was the most anticipated movie of the last several weeks (at least amongst my friends).

Yes, I saw Borat. And yes, I will be one of the first to say that I was not all that impressed. In fact, a lot of my friends left the theather with a "meh" feeling of dissapointment. What went wrong?

Two things:

1) Not enough hype.

2) Where were all those hilarious clips from the trailer? Oh right, they're in the movie along side all of the so-so ones.

Mind you, the hotel wrestling scene was OMG ROTFL and I did LOL throughout the film, but on the whole I find a film like Jackass 2 to be the kind of LOL film that delivers on a TGIF kinda night out with the dudes. Hell, I enjoyed the theater experience of SoaP more than I did Borat. Alright, enough with the acronyms.

Seriously, the theater was packed with the targeted demographic - cool sneakers, blazers, track jackets and film-school glasses. $26 million for an opening weekend doesn't sound all that awesome and consider the competition (Santa Clause 3? Pffft.) I can only wonder how well a film like this does when it does not have the backing of a smug hipster.

If you, like me, were not as entertained, all you can do is hope that the Bruno movie is good. And when I say good I mean $42 million good.

And if Bruno doesn't satisfy, I only have this to quench your thirst for Frat Boy humor with Hipster sensibilities.
