My name is Terry and this is my blog.

I am currently living in Los Angeles.

I like films, music, and don't even get me started on long walks on the beach.

I don't read a lot of books, but am always fishing for book recommendations.

My parents are Vietnamese and I was born in America.

That's all you really need to know upfront.

Father and Son

Just finished watching the Sopranos and must say that it is the best television I have seen all this year. Then again, it's the only other show I watch aside from Big Love. Seriously though, watching Tony and AJ spar outside the police station was pretty fucking intense and emotionally violent.

As violent as the vomiting I suffered through on Thursday night I may add. I'm fully recovered now and to be honest, at one point during the vomiting, I told myself that I would become a vegetarian if I survived the ordeal. Two days later I'm eating dim sum, soon tofu and Galbi (spread over Saturday and Sunday). The way I see it, if I give up meat just because of a little food poisoning, I'm essentially letting the Mexicans win. And that is NOT the American way. USA USA USA!!!!

I kid, I kid. I never really liked Mexican food to begin with.

kill bill

music: I'm thinking of a movie . . .
mood: light fingers thru the dark

anyways, depending on who you ask, there's little/ a lot going on and hence here I am now with little to say.

BUT - if you're living in the NYC/Dallas/Florida area - keep your eyes out for a Carvel Ice Cream Cake commercial whose treatment was simply "80 Cakes in 30 Seconds." Your boy edited that one.

The real Terry will be back soon enough.

So over lunch today, as I was reading pitchfork's report on the announcement of this year's MACRoCk line-up, one of the band names struck me as so original I almost choked on my almond chicken salad sandwhich. See if you can pick it out. If you don't know, don't worry your pretty little head.

BUT before we hit the bands, I just wanted to let you know that supposedly the Powerade commercial that I cut aired again during the Final Four Championship Game. So congratulations to both me and the Gators!

V-K-L-JENNY

music: Deborah by T-Rex
mood: not terrific but competent

On April Fool's Day, before the clocks were pushed forward, I had the pleasure of attending my second Jenny Lewis show this year. When I bought the tickets, I was skeptical that the show would be a repeat of her show at the Vista Theater, but since one of the opening acts was Tilly and the Wall, I had a hunch that it was going to be a completely different experience.

In summary the show was fucking amazing - Jenny was backed not only by the ethereal Watson twins, but she had a full band behind her, including Jonathan Rice, who is slowly beginning to grow on me. The highlight of the show was a brand new song, "Jack Killed Ma," her most upbeat (musically) song to date.

Tilly and the Wall were the surprise hit for me, playing some new songs that will be on their forthcoming new album. I actually got goose bumps listening to one of the new songs, and for the life of me I can't explain why. For those who don't know, Tilly and the Wall are a 5 piece band comprised of both boys and girls, and their percussionist is a tap-dancing ballerina. The other opening act, Whispertown2000, was also pretty solid, solid enough that I bought their album from the merch table.

I brought my camera and decided to take some blurry pictures, as the Japanese girl who supplied me with photos of the Vista show was sadly not present. Here are some of the better ones:

Tilly and the Wall. Notice the very blurry tap dancer.

Oh, Jenny. Will you marry me? Or at least sign my yearbook?

The twins. Tonight they wore white. Back in February they wore Black. I rhyme tight.

I was hoping that the Watson twins would have done one of their songs from their forthcoming EP, but all I can hope is they tour on their own.

All in all, it was night of little disappointment. From the moment the drums and bass kicked in on "The Big Guns" my heart wanted to punch itself out of my chest. You should have been there.

The Watson Twins "Friend and Foe"
Tilly and the Wall "Reckless"

Have a listen and go buy the album if you like it.

AWESOME! I FUCKIN' EDITED THAT!

So if you were watching the Final Four today and you saw a Powerade commercial with a girl lifting a 10 lb weight in one hand and a 50 lb weight in the other, you can say you saw Terry's first edited commercial. And by editing, I mean selecting the take, setting an in and out point, choosing the freeze frame and letting the special effects guys do the rest.
