My name is Terry and this is my blog.

I am currently living in Los Angeles.

I like films, music, and don't even get me started on long walks on the beach.

I don't read a lot of books, but am always fishing for book recommendations.

My parents are Vietnamese and I was born in America.

That's all you really need to know upfront.

Diana and Me: The Beginning of a Beautiful Relationship

Taken with a plastic Diana camera outside of my office building. Fuji Velvia reversal film (ektachrome) cross processed. Speed 100. Printed by the lab. No Photoshop and no color correcting. More photos of the same vain can be found at my flickr.

Very Nice.

Brangelina in HCMC. Oddly, this really warmed my heart. I saw Angelina Jolie, in her UN Goodwill role, a few years ago in person at a children's reading at the National Geographic and she's one of the most beautiful beings I ever layed my eyes upon.

It would have been awesome if my parents ran into them. Note that they are not wearing helmets. In the time that I've spent in Vietnam I have never seen anyone wear a helmet while on motorbike.

SPOILER ALERT: STOP READING IF YOU ARE NOT CAUGHT UP ON THE 3RD SEASON OF THE OFFICE.

OKAY -

Tonight is the night I've been waiting for all year - The Merger episode of The Office - which will go down in the books as the episode where Jim and Pam meet face to face for the first time since Casino Night.

Speaking from experience, I have a feeling the encounter will be both horribly awkard but overwelmingly brilliant.

I have yet to choose whether I am Team Pam or Team Karen. I think I will ultimately choose tonight and then make a T-Shirt. Oh, wait, nevermind.

Here's a clip.

Vietnam

music: MCR

So my parents are back in the motherland for the month of November and I received an enthusiastic phone call from my mother last week. They're doing fine, having a good time, negotiating dowries and buying me some Cuchi Tunnel t-shirts. Fun times. I've been going through the photo collection in an attempt to keep the Flickr account afloat and found these two gems that I scanned when I was home last Christmas. Both are of my mother and the one with the statue was a laboratory composite. I'll be posting some more entries about Vietnam in the coming days/weeks.

Your Movie Wasn't THAT Awesome

music: The Concretes
mood: Better . . .

So like many of you this weekend, I took a few hours out of my life and saw what was the most anticipated movie of the last several weeks (at least amongst my friends).

Yes, I saw Borat. And yes, I will be one of the first to say that I was not all that impressed. In fact, a lot of my friends left the theather with a "meh" feeling of dissapointment. What went wrong?

Two things:

1) Not enough hype.

2) Where were all those hilarious clips from the trailer? Oh right, they're in the movie along side all of the so-so ones.

Mind you, the hotel wrestling scene was OMG ROTFL and I did LOL throughout the film, but on the whole I find a film like Jackass 2 to be the kind of LOL film that delivers on a TGIF kinda night out with the dudes. Hell, I enjoyed the theater experience of SoaP more than I did Borat. Alright, enough with the acronyms.

Seriously, the theater was packed with the targeted demographic - cool sneakers, blazers, track jackets and film-school glasses. $26 million for an opening weekend doesn't sound all that awesome and consider the competition (Santa Clause 3? Pffft.) I can only wonder how well a film like this does when it does not have the backing of a smug hipster.

If you, like me, were not as entertained, all you can do is hope that the Bruno movie is good. And when I say good I mean $42 million good.

And if Bruno doesn't satisfy, I only have this to quench your thirst for Frat Boy humor with Hipster sensibilities.

EXERCISE YOUR CIVIL RIGHT

A great moment from several years ago. Even Eminem understands the importance.

I plan on hitting the polls early tomorrow before work. Hope to see you there.

I Got Lucky

On Sunday night I headed over to my favorite neighborhood bookstore Skylight Books and hit up their "Pick Your Own Discount" anniversary sale where you reach into a can and pick a discount card ranging from 10-70% off your purchase. Guess who got 70% off on their copy of Identity Crisis and The Ultimates Volume 2? Yes, me. And yes, I still read comic books . . .

Well, the fun continues at Skylight as this week sees more sales. On Thursday they have 25% off FICTION, MYSTERY & SCI- FI, on Friday - COMICS, ART & PHOTOGRAPHY, on Saturday - POETRY & FILM and Sunday - CHILDRENS & COOKBOOKS.

Go and support your local bookstore! (I know, it's hypocritical that I used Amazon.com links . . .)

Bollycruise

Remember that really funny trailer for The Shining you saw last year? Well, it was part of this editorial contest run by the NY AICE and this year's winner mixed up the perfect combination of one part 80's Cruise and a dash of Bollywood. On the rocks . . .

Bonus: Here's another entry from the same contest.

Interesting . . .

The NYTimes reported yesterday that a new film will be madde from a film treatment by Stanley Kubrick commissioned in the late 50's - story here.

Even more interesting is that they signed a relatively unknown director - Chris Palmer. I work in commercial production, so the name is actually quite familiar. Chris is repped by Anonymous Content /Gorgeous the same company that represents other big feature film/commercial directors like David Fincher, Mark Romanek and Wong Kar -Wai. One of my favorite commercials by Palmer is a spot he did for Nike - Tennis Instructor, but some of you may recognize the spot he did for Sky One, where he shot the a live-action version of The Simpsons opening . . . .
