My name is Terry and this is my blog.

I am currently living in Los Angeles.

I like films, music, and don't even get me started on long walks on the beach.

I don't read a lot of books, but am always fishing for book recommendations.

My parents are Vietnamese and I was born in America.

That's all you really need to know upfront.

One - Cut A Hole in a Box Two- Put Your Junk in the Box

Man, the song that I can't get out of my head. Back in York now and unfortunately my parents do not have the internets at the house so I'm forced to do a quick post at my cousin Bao's house. Well, there's not much to say really except Happy Holidays and I'll be back in LA soon enough.

Dick in a Box. Who would have ever guessed?

Rosie Apologizes

This is a relief to me. I'm kinda glad that she owns up to what she's said and even goes as far to acknowledge that "Ching Chong" is offensive to ALL Asian Americans, even as offensive as the N-word. I would just like to add that Ching Chong is just as offensive as the word "faggy," which I assume is still part of the playground lexicon. I just needed to say that so Rosie and I are very clear about how hurtful the words "Ching Chong" can be.

Growing up in suburban Pennsylvania was not at times the best for a timid Asian American kid like myself. I remember being the only Asian kid in the first grade (at a new school nontheless) and of my first social interactions with my new classmates was kicking back at them after numerous taunts of "Do you know Karate?" "Is Bruce Lee your Dad" and yes, "Ching Chong." My first grade teacher sent the lot of us back into the classroom where I had to write "I will not kick" 50 times on a piece of paper and the other kids had to write "I will not pick on people." This was the first of 3 times when I've ever dealt with racism directly - one time a kid riding on bike called me a gook to my face as I was taking the trash out to the end my driveway (I was 12) and I was once jumped by a skinhead at local punk show (I was 15).

Long story short before this turns into a rant - Ching Chong is a bad as the N-word and please don't tell me I look like Bruce Lee, despite a very similar haircut and muscular physique.

XFM Baby Roadies Commercial

Yes, it seems like today is "Spot Day." But we just got the latest issue of Shots Magazine here at the office and I thought I would link this XFM spot which I felt was the best of the bunch. Sure, the idea of kids acting like adults is nothing novel (the band Grandaddy did this to great effect for the music video "El Caminos in the West"), but the excecution is well done and it had me laughing out loud.

New Jonathan Glazer Spot

Here's a spot by Jonathan Glazer for Motorola's "RED" Campaign. Proceeds from the phone will help fight AIDS in Africa. Reportedly, Motorola is refusing to air the commercial.

Is it me, or did Chris Cunningham do something very similar with his short film "FLEX", which was excerpted on his Director's Label DVD?

---EDIT---Did anybody except me care for his Bravia "Paint" spot. Granted, it's not as mindblowing as "Balls," but still . . . .---EDIT---

DEAREST R.O. . . .

While a minority

some of us

where those hands
have been).

Fuck you.
